Wigan Athletic defender Rob Kiernan has joined League Two side Burton Albion on a one month loan deal, it was confirmed today.
The 21-year-old, Republic of Ireland Under-21 captain joins the Brewers, who currently occupy seventh place in the fourth tier, in time for their league match against Northampton Town at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday.
It means he could face Wigan Athletic team-mate, and fellow loanee, Lee Nicholls at the weekend who is currently impressing at the Cobblers.
Kiernan joined Accrington Stanley on loan for a brief spell last season before having to return to the Club after picking up an ankle injury, and Roberto Martinez believes this will be an experience the defender will learn much from, saying:
“Rob will benefit massively from his time at Burton Albion, playing senior football for a good team in a very competitive league. We wish him the very best of luck and look forward to watching him in an exciting time of his career.”
