Wigan Athletic went out to match Manchester United face-to-face yesterday at Old Trafford but, in doing so they were caught out in the second half after a formidable first half performance.
Caldwell was quick to praise the performance of the team and the support from the traveling fans.
“Everyone worked their socks off today and there has to be some credit given in that respect.
“We dug in really well in the first half but, we conceded some really soft goals but, everyone on the pitch gave it their all and did it for the Club.
“The fans were fantastic and they came out in big numbers again.”
“I think they feel what we feel, that there’s something special happening at the Club.
“They’re trying to back us and I think they knew this was always going to be a difficult game.”
Caldwell explained the reason he believes cost Latics the game.
“We were well in the game, perhaps we could have been a bit better when we were on the ball but, we caused them a lot of problems when we did break.
“Second half we didn’t really get started and as soon as you concede the first goal at Old Trafford you’re always going to get put under pressure and we paid a massive price in the end.
“When you come here and you create opportunities you have to take them and make Man United pay because they push a lot of players forward.
“There were a couple of decisions that were debatable but I don’t think you can blame the referee for us losing the game.”
The mentality of the players will play a big part in the next game at home to Fulham on Saturday, something which the Scottish defender believes the team have in abundance.
“We’ve got to dust ourselves down and go out against Fulham and show that we mean business.
“As long as we do the same next week but add a little bit extra to our game then we’ll pick up points quickly.
“We’ve got to think of the good things we did in the first half, take them into next week and not let ourselves get affected by the outcome of the game.
“The lads in the dressing room know what they have to do and we will come out stronger because of this result.”
