Harewood 38, 43
Baptiste, 76

Report by Paul Chialton

Not the start to the new season we had all anticipated as a first-half rampage from Premier League new-boys Blackpool wrapped up all three-points for the Seasiders.

Goals from Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Marlon Harewood settled the game by the time referee Mark Halsey had blown his whistle for the end of the first 45 minutes, with defender Alex Baptiste getting in on the act late on.

The Seasiders' goal-spree had come against the run of play after a lively start from Roberto Martinez's side who were out of the traps early.

Good link-up play between Hugo Rodallega and Mauro Boselli up-front was complimented by positive play in the midfield from James McCarthy and Momo Diame.

The front-men conspired to break Blackpool's last-line but good defending prevented a home goal and an early lead.

Victor Moses was in good form on the right-wing, always looking to push on and cause problems, and coming close on the half-hour mark after a dashing run through the middle ended with a shot edging just wide.

However by that time Blackpool had sown their seed and were on the crest of a wave after Taylor-Fletcher's opener.

The introduction of Ronnie Stam at half-time did much to inspire good attacking play from the home side. The Dutchman's clever forward runs found him in dangerous positions and his crosses had the Blackpool defence on the back-foot more than once.L

Boselli also reaped the rewards shortly after the hour-mark, meeting Stam's cross with a glancing header that tipped onto the bar before bouncing over.

Alex Baptiste rubbed salt into the wounds late on in the second-half with his strike, leaving Latics with a tough week ahead as they prepare to take on Chelsea at home next Saturday.
