All square at the DW Stadium as Latics performance is denied three points

Rodallega, 59

Elmander, 66

Report by Paul Chialton

Hugo Rodallega's third goal of the season was cancelled out by Johan Elmander as Bolton pegged Latics back to a 1-1 draw at the DW Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Rodallega's strike on the hour-mark was the product of a fantastic counter-attack by the home side, with Momo Diame winning the ball back outside his own half before setting Charles N'Zogbia loose down the left-wing.

The Frenchman cut into the centre before cushioning a ball into Franco Di Santo's feet before his cute lay-off found Rodallega one-on-one with Jussi Jaaskeainen and there was only ever going to be one winner; a low stun into the bottom left-corner.

It was reward for the home side's patience and a slice of luck after James McCarthy, and later Emmerson Boyce, had to be taken off injured.

However, it wasn't long before Bolton were on level terms, Kevin Davies nodding down for Elmander to poach home at the back-post.

The away side had looked dangerous going forward but Roberto Martinez will be disappointed with the space the Swedish forward found for himself inside the area.

Latics performed well again to stretch their current form to one defeat in their last nine games, battling well against a physical Bolton team and creating fantastic chances in the final third.

Rodallega saw a header flash across the face of goal after meeting a corner superbly and Tom Cleverley was introduced late on to mix things up a little, he did just that and twice threatened Jaaskelainen's goal with sharp efforts.

Credit must also go to Franco Di Santo were was immense up-front, holding off the away side's defence and always providing an outlet for the ball. The Argentine front-man is going from strength to strength in a Latics shirt.

Overall Roberto Martinez may well be a little disappointed his side were denied three points for a second weekend, but there's no denying the belief and desire in his team - a massive positive to take from the game.

Roberto Martinez now faces an anxious wait to see the extent of James McCarthy's first half injury. The Scot was on the receiving end of a challenge from Fabrice Muamba which saw him stretchered off the pitch.
