Latics rocked at the seaside

Demontagnac 3
Burgess 19
Adam 32
Taylor-Fletcher 67

Amaya 90+3

Report by Paul Chialton

Not many ways to dress this one up unfortunately, Blackpool were quite simply the better side and wanted it more and a debut goal from Anotnio Amaya at the death wasn't enough to event warant as a consolation.

Roberto Martinez's men never got really got going and struggled to find the link between defence, midfield and attack, such was the effort the Tangerines put in.

To be fair James McCarthy and Scott Sinclair both gave very good accounts of themselves, and worked hard try and find a breakthrough. The two linked well in the space behind Marlon King but found it frustrating to penetrate the opposition defence.

Sinclair ran and ran all night to stake a real claim for a place in the starting eleven on Sunday, his twisting, turning runs and blistering pace beat the Blackpool back-line on a number of occasions.

His best chance came just after half-an-hour, crowded by three defenders on the left-wing he somehow found a way into the area but had his shot saved well by Matt Gilks.

Ben Watson had a couple of free-kicks parried away by Gilks who was in top form for Ian Holloway's men, determined not to be beaten.

The home side got their opener just three minutes in, Ishmel Demontagnac intercepting a Mohamed Diame back-pass and striking left-footed from 25-yards past Mike Pollitt.

That lead was doubled shortly afterwards when, with a slight suspicion of offside, Brett Ormerod slipped in Ben Burgess to stroke home from just outside the area.

Charlie Adam pounced on the rebound from his own penalty to make it 3-0 after Paul Scharner fouled inside the area, and Gary Taylor-Fletcher rounded things off with 20 minutes left, turning inside the area and slotting home.

With the last touch of the game literally, Antonio Amaya rose above the Balckpool defence to head home a Ben Watson corner.
