Raising the aspirations of young people through football and education.
Wigan Athletic Community Trust runs a range of education projects that use football and sport to motivate and inspire young people.
The Latics Literacy project is a ten-week project led by Community Trust staff that is designed to improve the reading and writing of pupils in primary schools across Wigan.
The Latics Enterprise Academy is a three-year project funded by the Premier League and Sport Relief, which provides business qualifications to secondary school students, using the model of a professional football club to inspire the youngsters to become interested in business.
In conjunction with its partners at the Montrose Skills Hub, Pro-Co NW Ltd, Wigan Athletic Community Trust provides two exciting training and apprenticeship courses for young people over the age of 16 who want to become sports coaches – Train With Latics and the Latics Apprenticeship.
Both Train With Latics and the Latics Apprenticeship provide unemployed 16-18 year olds with the chance to earn recognised sports qualifications, taking their learning outside of the classroom to lead coaching sessions, with further opportunities to continue their studies at university following completion of the courses.
